How can we help young people become active, engaged citizens in an increasingly complex world?

CIVIC STAGE is a new Horizon Europe project led by Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL) that will explore how participatory theatre can strengthen democratic engagement, critical thinking, inclusion, and civic participation among young people across Europe.

By combining theatre-based methods with digital practices, the project will create innovative learning experiences that empower young people to explore societal challenges, share their perspectives, and develop the confidence to make their voices heard. Over the next three years, CIVIC STAGE will work with thousands of young people, educators, and communities in 11 countries, helping to transform citizenship education through creativity, dialogue, and collaboration.

We are excited to contribute to building more inclusive and democratic societies where young people are not just observers, but active participants in shaping the future.

CIVIC STAGE also benefits from strong synergies with the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme Theatre SPACEs, creating valuable connections between research, education, and artistic practice.
