This year, Theatre SPACEs received exactly 1,100 applications from 110 countries around the world. For a brand-new programme, this level of interest is both inspiring and humbling. We are delighted to see such strong global interest in Theatre SPACEs as we prepare for the programme’s first cohort starting in 2026.

As the first-ever Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme dedicated to theatre in social, participatory art, community and educational contexts, Theatre SPACEs brings together a global community of artists, educators and researchers who believe in the transformative potential of theatre. We are deeply grateful for the enthusiasm shown by applicants worldwide and excited to begin this journey.

The first Theatre SPACEs cohort will be exceptionally international and diverse.

Students joining the programme come from a wide range of professional backgrounds across the performing arts and related fields, with participants currently representing countries including the Philippines, China, Pakistan, India, Iran, North Macedonia, Hungary, Norway, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Brazil, the United States, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Ghana, Australia and New Zealand. Together, they will form a truly global community of practitioners, educators, artists and researchers.
